Culinary Interests

What world cuisines interest me?

The easy answer is: all of them!

However, this year, I want to pay particular attention to a few of the types of cuisine that I particularly enjoy and some that I've never tried at home before. Additionally, I want to try and make healthier versions of my favorite foods. These include:

Indian

After spending most of 2012 in Chennai, India, it's probably not much of a surprise that I'd like to try to recreate some of my favorite dishes. These include different curries, samosas and basically anything with paneer.

Korean

I had never even tried Korean food until a few years ago and ever since I've been in love. I really find that the flavors and textures are exactly the sorts of things I prefer. Some of my favorites that I'm dying to try are bulgogi, bibimbap, kimchi and lots of different bachan options (side dishes).

Mexican

Like most people, my idea of Mexican food is actually 'Tex-Mex' with loads of cheesy goodness. However, this year I'm endeavoring to have less cheese and fat in my diet so I'm hoping a new interest in Mexican food can help me to continue enjoying dishes I like but reverting back to their pre-excessive cheese additions. Wish me luck!

Italian

My parents have been living in Italy for the last two years and as a result, I've found something amazing to eat every time I've visited. I'd like to try recreating these tasty treats in my London flat with my own twists and treats.

French

Finally, French food... honestly, there's a reason it's the symbol of culinary deliciousness. With my lovely french roommate, I have decided that this is the year I'm going to try my hand at some of the classics and popular dishes. Plus, with a trip to Paris planned for later in the spring, I'm hoping to gather more inspiration while there!
